  • Student Jury Award, in collaboration with youth information centre InformaGiovani Varese

Cortisonici Ragazzi

The category Cortisonici Ragazzi addresses schools and extra-curricular educational projects aimed at under-18 students coming mainly from the province of Varese.
Cortisonici  Ragazzi is not meant to be just a contest, but it offers a moment of discussion and reflection among the people who work in schools, NGO’s and cultural associations and are convinced of the effectiveness of audiovisual means as a language and a tool.
Unicef Lombardia will give a special prize to the short film that better represents the theme of children’s rights whereas the best short film on environmental topics will be awarded by Legambiente Varese.

Focus on the Basque Country

Every year a special out-of-competition category is devoted to a specific cinema, showing the work of young rising directors of a particular nation.
In 2011, the Focus category was set up in collaboration with the Budapest Film Archive on Hungarian cinema whereas in 2012 Cortisonici will focus on the Basque Country.

The previous Focus on categories were:

  • 2006 Focus on Korea (in collaboration with IAFF in Seoul)
  • 2007 Focus on Madrid (in collaboration with Ecam – Madrid en Corto)
  • 2008 Focus on Argentina (in collaboration with Fondación Cineteca Vida in Buenos Aires)
  • 2009 Focus on Portugal (in collaboration with FIKE – Evora Short Film Festival)
  • 2010 Focus on India (in collaboration with the Delhi Film Archive)
  • 2011 Focus on Hungary (in collaboration with the Budapest Film Archive)

Cortisonici 2012 will devote the Focus on category to the Basque Country.
It will be set up in partnership with Kimuak, the official selection of the best Basque short films, created thanks to a collaboration between the government and the film archive of the Basque Country.

Notturno Giovani videoclip

This year again, musicians will also be present at the festival within the music video category, which was created thanks to a collaboration between the Association Cortisonici and Informagiovani Varese – Politiche Giovanili (Youth Information Centre – Local department for Youth policies) and funding from Fondazione Cariplo.

This initiative is part of the Notturno Giovani project through which the famous local band “Insooner” from Marchirolo was rewarded in 2011 for its music video “Praga Dorata”, from the album “Assemblando oceani per annegare in pace”.
A special prize will be given to the winner of the videoclip category: the director will have the opportunity to take part, for one week, to a big international film festival, for free: Cortisonici and Notturno Giovani will cover for the travel and lodging expenses as well as accreditation fees.

Inferno and other events

Once again Cortisonici includes in this year’s programme the special section Inferno: long nights devoted to extreme and genre cinema.
Just like in previous years, there will also be meetings with authors, workshops and panel discussions, concerts and aperitifs, …
More appointments, more hunger for short cinema![:]
